Our Roots

Judur was founded by Tareq and Noor, a husband-and-wife team based in California, created to honor and celebrate our Palestinian roots while bringing something meaningful and authentic to the table.

At the heart of this story is Tareq's grandfather, Abu Mustafa—a passionate farmer whose life was devoted to these sacred olive groves. His work, like that of countless Palestinian farmers, was deliberate and steadfast, tending to each tree day after day, year after year. He instilled in his children and grandchildren a deep connection to the land and a lasting sense of stewardship. His legacy endures in the land itself, and in every harvest that follows.

Tareq was born and raised in Palestine and grew up helping his family during olive harvest season which involved long days in the groves, hands patiently moving from branch to branch, gathering fruit with care, and taking breaks under the shade to enjoy qalayet bandora "sautéed tomato stew" and tea prepared over a handmade fire. At the end of the harvest, he would load the sacks of olives on a donkey and bring them to the mill to press. Tareq and his family would take taboon bread and dip it into the freshly-pressed olive oil. While his family continues this annual tradition, he cherishes the memories he has of his family and the land that made him who he is.

Noor was born and raised in sunny Southern California in a multi-cultural household where phone calls were answered with "Hola habibti, how are you?" Her connection to Palestine was always close. It lived in her home growing up, in the food her parents cooked, and in the stories they shared—stories of their trips to Palestine and of the generations before them. Both Palestinian and Venezuelan culture and hospitality were passed down at the table, shaping how she understands family, identity, and community.

That connection deepened when Noor traveled to Palestine for the first time, where she met Tareq. Their relationship, like Judur itself, is rooted in Palestine, formed through shared land, shared meals, and a shared understanding of what it means to carry heritage forward.

Judur is how they carry that legacy together.

Today, they work directly with their family and farmers in Palestine to source their olive oil and bring it to tables in the United States. Each bottle reflects countless hands, seasons, and stories, a true expression of care, craftsmanship, and deep respect for the land.

Judur means “roots” in Arabic. It speaks to where we come from and what grounds us: family, heritage, and an unwavering love and appreciation for our land. This oil tells our story, but it also honors the many farmers whose lives are woven into Palestinian agriculture, each one a storyteller, each grove a living archive.
